I remember our friends from Manchester visiting us in the Netherlands. Mark still suffering from the hangover he got from the gig of the Darkness he visited the night before, gave me a copy of the 'Permission To Land' album. I never heard of them but I got hooked from the start. Great song, great band, deserves to end op high in this chart.

I will be voting this as my song of the decade, mainly because if it wasn't for this band I wouldn't have found this radio station, as at the time it was one of the only stations that played this song! Its awesome!

The Darkness won best British album (for Permission To Land, which this song is on), best British group and best British rock act at the 2004 Brit Awards, Songwriters of the Year at the Ivor Novello Awards and Best UK & Ireland Act at the 2003 MTV Europe awards. That's got to count for something, surely?

A much needed breathe of fresh air for the British music industry at the time, they swept the floor at the Brit Awards and EVERYBODY had a copy of their debut album! 1 in 5 homes had a copy was the statistic, if my memory serves me correctly! They kick started the re-introduction of rock bands in the charts, youngsters and oldies all agreed! Sad they couldn't hold it togeather and that the record labels didn't give One Way Ticket anywhere near the advertising it deserved! But... with anybody and everybody reforming these days who knows, come back guys... britain needs you!!!!!
