Gorillaz is a virtual band created in 1998 by Damon Albarn of Britpop band Blur, and Jamie Hewlett, co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl. The band is composed of four animated band members: 2-D (vocals, keyboard), Murdoc Niccals (bass), Noodle (guitar, vocals) and Russel Hobbs (drums). I love the way it's composed of various disparate elements like a beautifully ugly patchwork quilt, woven from many different fabrics. The texture of the rap, the desolate, surreal lyrics, Damon's voice, the guitars, the synths and drums, the brilliant illustrations/ animation in the video. it's 10 good ideas rolled into 1.

I can still remember this song being everywhere all the time when I was in year 9 at school; every lunch time be blasting out of a classroom somewhere, every one determined to prove that they knew the De La Soul section. Four and a half years later, I'm at university and it is still played at almost every party and as cool as it was when first released.
