Take Me Out to Run Somewhere Only We Know.
Strange way to start a blog post isn’t it? And no, I haven’t become an overnight fitness bore. They were in fact three of the biggest songs of 2004 – Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out, Snow Patrol’s Run (aka The Swaying Lighter Song) and Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know. Proof as I’m sat here writing to you that 2004 was a vintage year for music.
Green Day sang about an American Idiot whilst new band Maroon 5 had a massive hit with This Love in the late summer. I’m sure you remember the very catchy Hey Ya by Outkast- what a great video and a superb live performance at The Brits. A low point was Band Aid 20….why oh why try and tinker with a brilliant original idea from almost 20 years ago is quite beyond me.
2004 was the year of The Invincibles as Arsenal went an entire Premier League season unbeaten. Facebook was founded in the US, at The Oscars Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King won 11 Academy awards. Greece won Euro 2004 against all the odds and it was a leap year…er…I’m still single…but it would have been nice to have been asked!
